Rostelecom distributes Sailfish-run phones among employees
MOSCOW, Jan 31 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Rostelecom has started to distribute smartphones running on local operating system Sailfish, in whose developer the state-controlled telecom operator owns 75%, to the employees, Rostelecom CEO Mikhail Oseyevsky told reporters late on Wednesday.
“Some employees have already received (phones), and 8,000–10,000 employees will get it in the next few months,” Oseyevsky said.
The operator purchased 8,000 smartphones and 1,500 tablets and has distributed only a handful of them. Most of the devices will be used for Rostelecom’s internal needs and the rest for more than 10 state entities, with which the operator is in talks now.
Oseyevsky earlier said that the operator intends to rename the operating system. Rostelecom suggested the government use Sailfish-run smartphones and hopes it would start in 2019.
